I'm Flash 6. 5) Updates for Macromedia Dreamweaver 4 and Adobe GoLive 5 6) Quick Tip: Stylesheets and MIME Types <---------------------------------------------------> 1) CompuServe 7 released with Netscape Gecko -------------------------------------------- CompuServe launched CompuServe 7.0 with Netscape embedded as its default browser. CompuServe has over 3 million subscribers, adding even more weight to the importance of creating sites and applications that work in a cross browser world. The Netscape Gecko embeddable browser is the same browser engine that powers Mozilla and Netscape 6. http://media.aoltimewarner.com/media/press_view.cfm?release_num=55252542 2) AOL in Public Beta with Netscape Gecko ------------------------------------------------ Join AOL's Netscape Gecko beta by going to Keyword: Beta. It takes about 24 hours for beta application approval. http://www.aol.com If you don't have AOL beta or Compuserve 7, try your pages with the latest Mozilla build for a similar experience. http://www.mozilla.org/releases AOL GECKO BROWSER DETECTION TIPS: In general, replace your "Netscape 6" sniffs with "Gecko", which is common to all Gecko-based browsers. http://developer.netscape.com/evangelism/docs/articles/find-gecko/ 3) Testing Tool: Browse Once, Sniff Many ------------------------------------------------ How well does Netscape Gecko display your browser-specific content? Find out in seconds, with this Netscape/Mozilla toolbar. Switch between popular user agent strings and custom define your own strings (such as for AOL/Gecko): 1. Go to http://uabar.mozdev.org/source.html 2. Click "Install xpi here" 3. Restart the browser 4. From the new UA string toolbar you can drop it down to pick commonly used UA strings. Or paste this in to make it emulate the AOL/Gecko beta: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.0rc1) Gecko/20020415 AOL/7.0 NOTE TO SITES USING PLUGINS: We recommend you join the AOL beta to make sure everything works as expected. 4) Do you know me? I'm Flash 6. ------------------------------------------------ Do you check for specific versions of Macromedia Flash? If so, now is a good time to start detecting Flash 6, which is becoming more widespread. 5) Gecko Updates for Macromedia Dreamweaver and Adobe GoLive ------------------------------------------------------------- Get your HTML editors supporting the latest standards with these updates: Dreamweaver 4 Update http://www.macromedia.com/support/dreamweaver/ts/documents/netscape_6.htm Adobe GoLive 5.0 Update http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/2814e.htm (GoLive 6 does not require an update.) 6) Quick Tip: Stylesheets and MIME Types ---------------------------------------------- Befuddled by stylesheet strangeness when your code clearly says: type="text/css"? Check your web servers' MIME type settings. Netscape/Gecko browers only look for "text/css" when operating in Standards mode. Sometimes the culprit lies serverside.
