The Windows version also bundles Java 1.4.0_03 and Macromedia(R) Flash(TM) 6 with support for windowless mode. About 20 million people have downloaded Netscape 7.x! If you're detecting specific Netscape 7.x versions, please check your site with Netscape 7.02. And better yet, make life easy by simply detecting "gecko." Wondering how we got the URLs to show up in printouts? Puzzled by our font-sizing choices? Get the scoop: http://devedge.netscape.com/viewsource/2003/devedge-redesign-faq/ ------------------------------------------------------------ 3) Issues Arising From Arbitrary-Element Hover ------------------------------------------------------------ Thanks to long-standing limitations, we're used to thinking of hover styles as applying only to hyperlinks. This has led to some sloppy authoring practices that are now causing problems for some Web sites, like entire navigation bars being underlined when the user moves the mouse pointer over them. Find out how to avoid these problems: http://devedge.netscape.com/viewsource/2003/arbitrary-hover/ ------------------------------------------------------------ 4) Prefetching Content for Increased Performance ------------------------------------------------------------ Want to speed up your page loading? Link prefetching is a Netscape Gecko-based browser feature that allows an HTML page to retrieve web content when an end user's browser connection is idle. The prefetched content gets stored into the browser's cache, and therefore appears quickly once the user goes to the page containing the prefetched content. Learn more: http://devedge.netscape.com/viewsource/2003/link-prefetching/ ------------------------------------------------------------ 5) Properly Using CSS and JavaScript in XHTML Documents ------------------------------------------------------------ XHTML is rapidly replacing HTML 4 among many sites; however, the failure of popular web browsers to properly support XHTML, combined with a lack of understanding by web authors of the fundamental differences between HTML 4 and XHTML, is creating a growing problem on the web today. Learn how to avoid these problems: http://devedge.netscape.com/viewsource/2003/xhtml-style-script/ ------------------------------------------------------------ 6) Three New Gecko-based Clients for OS X ------------------------------------------------------------ AppMac Software has released three new Macintosh OS X Web clients: wKiosk 2.0, wDesk 1.0, and wKids 1.0. Each one has a different set of security and other features, but all three share a common basis: Netscape Gecko™. He'll be on a mini-panel called "Between the Style Sheets" with Jeffery Zeldman, Web developer to the stars; and Tantek Celik of Microsoft's Macintosh division. It promises to be an interesting look at the state of CSS and web design. ------------------------------------------------- HOW TO SUBSCRIBE/UNSUBSCRIBE FROM DEVEDGE NEWS ------------------------------------------------- Got feedback?
