On October 11, 2002, Wired launched a brand-new site design that uses XHTML for its structure and a small collection of CSS files for its layout. The new design clearly shows what some experts have been saying: that standards-based design can be visually compelling and preserve the interface conventions we've come to expect from Web pages. Read an in-depth interview with Douglas Bowman, the man behind the redesign, and find out why and how he did it. - http://devedge.netscape.com/viewsource/2002/wired-interview/ ------------------------------------------ 2) Story ------------------------------------------ story text ------------------------------------------ 3) Fixing Incorrect Marker Sizes in NS6.x ------------------------------------------ A bug in the way Mozilla 0.9.4 handled list item marker font sizing can be overcome with a small bit of Mozilla-specific code. Find out how to get your ordered-list numbers back under control. - http://devedge.netscape.com/viewsource/2002/marker-size/ ------------------------------------------ 4) Cross-Browser Quick Tip: Submitting a Form to Multiple Places ------------------------------------------ Have a form with multiple submit buttons to send form data to different destinations, depending on the data? Set up the buttons with an onclick handler that sets the form action and then submits the form. BUTTON type="button" will work in Netscape Gecko and Internet Explorer 4+ but not in Navigator 4.x. You can use INPUT type="submit" to support Navigator 4.x but will have to make your onclick handler return false so the INPUT does not perform the submit. ------------------------------------------ 5) New on Mozilla's Bookshelf ------------------------------------------ Creating Applications with Mozilla ---------------------------------- Mozilla is not just a web browser. Mozilla is also a framework for building cross-platform applications using standards. "Creating Applications with Mozilla" helps you create applications with Mozilla, with step-by-step information and examples of how to use Mozilla's powerful cross-platform development framework.
